If you plan on moving home, chances are that you will be able to take your Sky services along with you. There are a few simple steps that need to be followed in order to ensure a flawless transfer of your services, and these are outlined below. Moving home can be stressful, but transferring your television, internet, and phone service does not have to be. If you need help, Sky customer service agents are available every step of the way.

Getting Started

Step one will be to call the Sky contact number and let them know that you are planning to move and want to transfer your service. It is also possible to provide this information online. Simply complete and submit the provided moving home form online. A confirmation will be sent to you if everything is in order. Information is provided regarding the moving of your equipment, but if you have any questions about the process of changing over your devices, contact Sky and speak with one of their customer service representatives.

Moving Your Equipment

When preparing to move, you will need to make sure that all of your Sky equipment is included in the items moved to your new home. What you will not be taking with you is the satellite dish and any of the cables that are run from the dish to the television boxes in your home.

Items that you will take with you include:

  • Sky boxes
  • Viewing cards
  • Remote controls
  • Wireless connector
  • Internal cables
  • Broadband router

If you make use of any other types of equipment to access Sky services, be sure to take those items along with you as well. If you have informed Sky that you will want to view television in additional rooms of your new home, be sure to hold onto the new viewing cards that are sent to you. The Sky engineer that comes to complete the setup will need them. Also, be sure to have all of your television sets unpacked and set up before the engineer visits. Otherwise, he or she will not be able to connect your Sky dish.

Installation Permissions

It will be your responsibility to ensure that you are granted permission to install a dish in your new home. If you rent and are not a homeowner, consult with your landlord. If you do not request permission for the installation, there is a chance that you could be asked to take down your Sky dish and remove it from the exterior of your new home. If your new home is a flat that is within a block, you may need to consult with the block owner or the group that is responsible for it.

Sky does offer specific services that are tailored for landlords who wish to offer Sky services to their tenants. Permission that comes from a planning authority may be needed in order to install Sky equipment and services with some buildings or conservation areas. Any changes that are made may be bound by special conditions (i.e. using specific materials). Do be sure that you have permission for the installation of Sky equipment if you are moving into any area where special conditions may apply.

Exterior Installation

When Sky equipment is moved to a new house, the process is essentially the same as when it is installed at a home for the very first time. A Sky engineer will likely need to use ladders and other equipment to complete the installation. There could be some exceptions, which typically result in accessibility on your property. If you want to make sure that the installation can be completed in just one visit from an engineer, check to see if any of the following apply to your location and let Sky customer service know if they do:

  • Your new home is located in a tenement block and dishes are in open view.
  • You reside in a flat where dishes are not in open view.
  • Your Sky dish will need to be installed in a location that is over two floors high.
  • Scaffolding is in place that may prevent the installation from being carried out.

Sky must consider the best interest of their engineers and safety is paramount. In rare cases, installation may be impossible. Should you note any problems that may prevent installation, contact Sky so that they can attempt to make the proper arrangements for a safe installation of your Sky services.

New Home Location

If your new home is located in an area that does not yet have road signs, contact Sky customer service and provide some basic directions for the engineer to follow. If you schedule the service transfer online, you can include this information in the comments box. In order to successfully transfer service, your new address will need to be on file with the Royal Mail. A check of this should only be required if the home that you are moving to is brand new construction.

Each engineer is required to carry heavy items from their Sky van, so do make sure that they are able to park reasonably close to your home. If a parking permit is required, it will be up to you to arrange this for the engineer beforehand. If you suspect that there will be problems and need more time to make suitable arrangements for the installation, call the Sky phone number and ask to have the installation appointment rescheduled for a later time.

Moving Outside of the UK

Please keep in mind that Sky services are not available to those who live outside of the United Kingdom or Ireland. Furthermore, if your new home is located in Ireland, you will likely notice that some regional variations may impact your service. For example, you may not receive the same channels as those who subscribe to Sky service in the UK. It is only possible to schedule a transfer of services online if you live in the UK. If you reside in Ireland or plan to move to Ireland, call Sky customer services to make the proper arrangements.
