Passport Applications

Applications vary, depending on what sort of service you are looking for, so contact Passport Office if you have questions. If you a first-time passport holder, you are required to attend an interview conducted by the Identity Passport Service. This is a safety measure to ensure that you are who you claim to be. HM Passport Office has been under scrutiny regarding their eligibility rules regarding who gains a UK passport. As such, fraud prevention measures were installed to ensure that the process is handled in the proper forum. Parents trying to get a first passport for their child will also undergo the fraud prevention process, and this is done via phone.

If you are unable to visit the Passport Office or prefer not to call the Passport Office phone number, Her Majesty’s Passport Office has an online page where citizens living in the UK can log in and apply online. The online application will require you to print out a form, fill it out, sign, and date the form, add any documents or photographs needed, and return the form for processing. You can mail your application to the mailing address provided on the website. The application will need you to include two passport pictures of yourself for confirmation and faster processing.

Citizens also have the option of picking up a form from a local post office location, filling it out, and returning it back to the post office for mailing. It is recommended you use Special or Recorded delivery. The Passport Office is not responsible for any documents that you send. Passport Office contact is recommended for those who are living abroad and are in need of a UK passport. Citizens can also call the Passport Office telephone number to book an appointment with the London Passport Office. Note that arrival time should be no more than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. New passports take approximately six weeks to process.

Passport Renewals

Renewing you passport is much faster process, as you do not need to go through the fraud prevention process. The Passport Office helpline is open for all who have questions about renewing their passport. A citizen renewing their passport will need to collect a form from their local post office, provide details of their existing passport as well as information on any changes they wish to adjust. Passport renewal process takes approximately three weeks to process.

Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Passports

You will need to replace a lost, damaged, or stolen passport. In the cases where your passport got stolen or lost, please report the incident by calling the Passport Office number as soon as possible. In the case of damage, a passport may not be accepted as identification if the damage has caused the photo or personal details to no longer be legible. Passport replacement takes approximately four weeks to process.

Payment and Delivery

If you apply for your new passport via post, payments can be made using your debit or credit card. Fill out the appropriate sections on the form (you will be asked for your credit/debit card number, account name, etc). You can also opt to pay by cheque or Postal Order, and should direct the payments to the HR Passport Office. For questions related to payment methods, call the Passport Office contact number.

You can track the process of your new passport three weeks after your application. If your new passport is to be delivered by Royal Mail, you will need to personally sign for it. They do not allow another individual to sign for your delivery so if possible, do avail yourself to receive the package. If you are not home during delivery, they will leave a calling card explaining how you can rearrange for the delivery. For any queries, contact Passport Office.
